Fall Health Tips with Dr. Aaron Seaton

Hello everyone, this is Dr. Aaron Seaton with The Chiropractic Place and fall is here. We've got some cold weather already rolling in. Just yesterday morning at my house it was 45 degrees early in the morning.

So I wanted to go over some good fall health tips for you as we move into this colder weather, this transition that we're having. Some things to just kind of keep in mind for your health as you're moving forward. One of the things to remember is that when it gets colder people tend to drink less water.

So you can still get dehydrated even when it's cold. So just something to keep in mind, make sure you're still getting adequate water into your body. That helps with metabolism, it helps keep your immune system boosted, it helps every function in your body. You can also read more about why staying consistent with healthy habits is so important.

So remember to keep water in mind when you move into this fall weather. The other thing is as it gets colder people tend to do less. So movement is still very important, helping you circulate your cells, your blood, all of that and keeping your exercise going.

So finding things that you can do that aren't so weather dependent. If there's going to the gym that you enjoy or some kind of sport you enjoy that's indoors when the weather's not being the best. Just keep that in mind as you move forward through fall because you want to keep your exercise going and keep yourself moving.

The other thing that we do notice obviously is we're going to have decreased sunlight. So natural vitamin D levels that our body produces will go down. So keep in mind with diet things that have vitamin D in it.

There's nothing with higher vitamin D levels than wild salmon. So if you enjoy having salmon I would incorporate that into my diet. You can do sardines, you can do salmon, there's a couple different options.

But you can also even do a vitamin D supplement if you start noticing and you can even do simple vitamin D blood tests to find out where's my vitamin D level because keeping your vitamin D up helps all your hormones, it helps your immune system, it helps you stay avoid depression as you go into winter with the lack of sunlight. You can learn more about this in our post on Vitamin D Benefits.

So just something to kind of keep in mind and still even in the winter when you have some sun getting an opportunity to get out with a little bit of sunlight throughout the day it'll really help keep your vitamin D levels boosted. And the other thing to keep in mind too is your chiropractic care.

Getting adjusted not only helps your spine move, keeps your nervous system functioning, but we know that getting adjusted boosts your immune system. It'll actually keep your T cell levels up which helps you fight viruses, cancer, stuff like that. So it's a good thing to keep that in mind as the cold and flu season approaches to make sure you're getting your chiropractic care.
