Spring Yard Work Causing Back Pain? Avoid Injury with These Simple Tips 🌱
Yard Work & Chiropractic Care: How to Protect Your Spine This Spring
Hello everyone, this is Dr. Aaron Seaton with The Chiropractic Place and spring is here and we are starting to do a lot of yard work and I know a lot of patients are starting to do a lot of yard work.
So I wanted to do a video about yard work and chiropractic. This is a lot of repetitive movements, a lot of bending that perhaps your body isn't quite used to right now.
Be Mindful of Your Body Mechanics
So just be aware of your body mechanics when you are doing yard work. If you're out there for several hours at a time, repetitive bending and lifting, make sure you're paying attention to proper lifting techniques, just not always bending at the waist, but hopefully kind of squatting, using your legs to get down and do the things you need to do.
Improper movement patterns can easily lead to neck pain, back pain, and even tension-related headaches that stem from the neck.
Why Yard Work Often Leads to Pain
Now, I'm seeing a ton of people come into the office because people are getting whatever, upper back, neck pain, or they're getting some low back pain from the yard work.
These repetitive motions—like weed whacking, mowing, trimming, and bending—can place stress on the spine and surrounding muscles, similar to the strain patterns discussed in chiropractic care for neck tension.
Don’t Wait Until the Pain Gets Severe
So I wanted to send out a little video to everybody reminding you, get in before it gets to the point where it's like eight, nine, 10 out of 10 pain. Don't be a hero.
You start feeling some of these symptoms, some of these changes in your body, come in consistently through this time of year.
Addressing issues early helps prevent long-term dysfunction and keeps your body moving properly.
Stay Consistent During High-Activity Seasons
We are all out there weed whacking, mowing, trimming, doing all this. I'm doing it, my wife and I are doing it together. So I need to see my chiropractor as well.
And I'm making sure I'm getting checked right now regularly just to make sure like through this time of year, make sure you're taking care of your spine.
Movement and alignment are key, just like the concepts explained in how the brain and body coordinate movement and posture.
Prevent Small Issues from Becoming Big Problems
It's really common for people to have stuff. And then they just figure, well, I'm gonna wait till all of the yard work is done before I go see Dr. Aaron and get adjusted.
That's not a good idea. You wanna be consistent, even if it means coming in for a few visits over this time of year to make sure you're not letting something build up and get worse and worse and turn into something, God forbid, that lasts weeks to months.
Taking care of minor discomfort early can help you avoid more serious issues and keep your body functioning the way it was designed to.
Take Care of Your Spine This Spring
So get in for your regular preventative maintenance during this time of year, get your spine checked, get adjusted, take care of it before it becomes a massive problem.
